Good day, Hans-Peter, and Packmans!
I have been reliably informed that it may be dangerous to discuss this
further on the Packman mailing list, or any of the official forums, from a
legal point of view.
So, there is a limit to what I am prepared to say here.
But also, I see no harm in writing up my HOWTO, and sending it privately to
any individuals who may be interested.
Should someone else then wish to add this knowledge to the Packman
collective in the form of regular, prebuilt binaries, I have no objection.
I just don't want to take on that responsibility myself.
To answer your question, I saw a slight improvement in performance between
the official Factory versions, and my first attempt at at building custom
binaries. This performance increase was about the same as when I installed
the Packman versions.
However, I noticed a *huge* performance improvement when I installed my
second attempt at building custom binaries. And the only thing I did
differently this time was installing libx264-devel and libx256-devel
packages before I did the rebuilds.
The output of vdpauinfo was the same for both my first and second builds,
and for the Packman versions of Mesa. Three more codecs were added from
what the official SUSE drivers were reporting.
I am busy building these packages on my Leap 15.4 box at the moment. I have
been making more notes as I go, and the builds take some time.
Because there seems to be sufficient interest, I am going to bump up the
priority of writing my HOWTO. But it won't happen today! ;-)
Kind regards,
Steven.
