I think this is the correct way to deal with it.

If a single spec file exists, the name of the pkg container does not matter.

If more than one spec file exists, one must be named like the pkg container.
In case no spec file matches the name of the pkg container, remove the unneeded ones:

  <link ...>
   <patches>
     <delete name="fileA"/>
     <delete name="fileB"/>
   </patches>
  </link>
