Yes, you should subscribe.

Reasons:

  1) Many of us only reply to the list, unless you ask specifically to 
get a direct reply.

  2) You are using gmail.

I will explain the later.

Gmail has the silent policy of deleting duplicate emails, ie, those that 
have the same Message-ID header. Thus if someone replies to the mail 
list and to you directly, the post that arrives second will be deleted.

Thus when you send email to the mail list you will not get evidence of 
the email having been posted on the list, and you react by sending 
duplicates.
