[packman] Trouble with the broadcom-wl driver with OpenSuSE Leap 15 build 187.1

I'm having trouble with this driver; the version for Leap 42.3 works fine.
I have raised OpenSuSE bug 1087946
https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1087946 to report the problem
there as it may be a kernel issue, but I'm emailing the packman mailing
list as it may be a problem with the driver in packman.
I get a prompt for wifi password but the driver fails to connect to the
wifi access point. There are messages in 'dmesg' but they are rather long
to post here; if you are interested you can see them in the bugzilla link
above.
If I plug in a USB wifi adapter (supported by the kernel), then the onboard
wifi adapter will connect to the wifi access point and I can access the
Internet through either wifi adapter; so things are very close to working.
