after some debugging sessions it became apparent that the pipewire
packages installed on Leap systems are not providing a functioning sound
server. Comparing this with Tumbleweed, Leap updates fail to install the
package "pipewire-pulseaudio" leaving the installed pipewire packages
unusable for packages that have native support for pipewire like Kodi.

There are several options:

  1. Add "--audio-backend=pulseaudio" as an argument for starting kodi
  2. Get rid of installed pipewire packages by removing them and locking
     them afterwards to ensure they won't get re-installed.
  3. Install the missing "pipewire-pulseaudio" package which will pull
     in some additional packages and then replace your existing
     pulseaudio packages.

I have now tested all three options and got them to work, however, on
Leap, I chose to use variant 2 when pipewire showed up. Depending on
your use-case, option 3 may work very well, but for me it wasn't an
option due to (a) raw passthrough for DTS etc. over HDMI and (b) using a
Jack configuration which re-directs my PA audio to a guitar amplifier;
whis works for me which is why I decided to (b)lock pipewire, at least
on Leap!

PS: I'll open a bug report for the pipewire packages on Leap, as they
    should be installed in a similar way as on Tumbleweed. As long as
    this is not the case, Pipewire doesn't work for Pipewire
    applications and therefore shouldn't be installed by default!
