That seems to be another regression in combination with Qt 5.5.
Downgrading to 5.4 fixes it, but that's unfortunately no option in Tumbleweed.

I don't know whether the upstreams (VLC and/or Qt) are aware of this, an 
openSUSE bug report is here though:
