And it's bound to remain at that version until vlc 2.2 is released. Vlc 2.1.5 won't build with anything newer than 2.3.x and that's a show-stopper.
Perhaps the new ffmpeg libraries could be statically linked to kodi?
Or perhaps someone has a bright idea to make ffmpeg 2.4/2.5 coexist as ffmpeg_current without having the sonames clash?
