I just updated KDE to the version from the kde:stable version, ie, 4.8. As
a result, amarok does not run, complains of wrong collection version. I'll
have to locate the collection and erase it [...] done, deleted all amarok
files and directories. I test by playing local mp3 files, works fine.
Internet streams do not.

In settings, sound system configuration, configure phonon button, it says
that pulse is set. Backend is set to gstreamer. I try changing to "xine",
doesn't work either. However, I go to set it back to gstreamer, and I
notice that the xine setting doesn't hold.

Banshee does not have a backend selector that I can see.

I'm doing this query:

  rpm -q -a --queryformat "%-30{NAME}\t%15{VERSION}-%-7{RELEASE}\t%{arch}
%25{VENDOR}%25{PACKAGER} == %{DISTRIBUTION} %{DISTTAG}\n" | grep -i
gstream | less -S

I see some packages not from packman:

gstreamer-0_10-plugins-gl: there is no packman version.
gstreamer-0_10-libnice:           same
banshee-backend-engine-gstreamer: same
libQtGStreamer-0_10-0:            same
phonon-backend-gstreamer-0_10:    same
PackageKit-gstreamer-plugin:      same

In theory it should work... but it does not.

Thanks for your help... I have almost given up on this.
