[packman] Floating point exception starting vlc 1.1.7 on openSuSE 11.4

After starting vlc from the command line, the GUI does not appear, and I get:

Floating point exception

Tried removing vlc-aout-pulse and installing phonon-backend-vlc: same problem....

What is going wrong?
