And you are using 0.pm.1 and not 0.pm.0?
This problem should be fixed by the new build.
Tried to remove ~/.vlc directory with old preferences?

Nearly the same her, but using Kernel (2.6.30rc6) and X.org (intels 
2.7.1 driver fixed a lot of problems here) from factory .
