[packman] pulseaudio + xine = stutter and pause = freeze

hi,

There is a very annoying problem with pulseaudio + xine:

1) In the first 4 seconds of an audiostream or video+audio there are one to
five significant stutters (at least with xine or paplay over network)

2) Pausing a video- or audiofile, played by xine or amarok will freeze at
least the second or third time and xine/amarok had to be killed. (amarok
using phonon-backend-xine and xine using pulseaudio).
To repoduce the freezing you had to pause and resume the stream at most 6-10
times.

my system:

- 64bit multicore
- opensuse 11.1 + packman reporitories

kernel 2.6.27.19-3.2-default #1 SMP 2009-02-25 15:40:44 +0100 x86_64

(but exactly the same behavior had accured with pulseaudio+xine on opensuse
10.2 on 32bit)

rpms:
pulseaudio-0.9.12-9.5
libpulse0-0.9.12-9.5

libxine1-pulse-1.1.16.2-0.pm.1
libxine1-1.1.16.2-0.pm.1

phonon-4.2.0-40.18
phonon-backend-xine-4.1.3-4.1
libphonon4-4.2.0-40.18

I have found some indications that it might be fixable:

It doesn't take more than a few days using xine + pulse combination to
note (1) the stuttering when starting playback and (2) the
pause/resume lockup. So i can only guess that people might not be
using (testing) what they are packaging.

Anyway, my suggestion to distros is: pack the latest 1.1.16.2 release
+ pause/resume patch (changeset 2208e465026c) and make it available to
users asap because it fixes several lockups. You may also include that
workaround to remove stuttering from audio-only streams if you want.

Is there any chance the packman team could build a patched pulseaudio packet
and provide a rpm?

thanx
