Hi,

I don't know kalbum, but I looks like that it has no ongoing development - so 
maybe you want to have a look at digikam which has a strong community and 
several interesting features and tools (especially when you install the so 
called kipi plugins).

And it can generate or export sets of photos, too - there is for example the 
possibility to export all the stuff to gallery servers, flickr or as a set of 
html pages which you can copy&paste to your own webserver.
