Ah, not 100% correct: chromium indeed doesn't play MP4, but firefox
on SLE 12 SP3 still does:

MozillaFirefox-52.8.1esr-109.34.1.x86_64 (SuSE)
libavcodec57-3.4.4-9.1.x86_64 (packman)
libavcodec58-4.0.1-2.2.x86_64 (SuSE)

Firefox also works with Spotify.
