One last thing to try, which will prove that it's likely to be dvdauthor. Pre process your video file with :
ffmpeg -i nameofvideo -target pal-dvd (or ntsc-dvd) output.vob you can add -aspect 16:9 if needed. Then use that file in DVDStyler and 
check the "do not remultiplex/transcode" box in the video's properties window, obtained by right clicking the video.
This cuts ffmpeg out of the process and only uses spumux to process the chapters. This can be done with menus.
