Ich habe kürzlich mal ein Ticket im novell bugzilla aufgemacht, warum denn 
lzop eigentlich nicht Teil der opensuse distribution ist.
Die antwort war nicht allzu negativ

Was hältst Du davon, wenn man das mal anginge und wie von Andreas Jaeger 
vorgeschlagen das Paket mal in den Build-Service hochlädt/integriert ?
Ich würde das unterstützen. Bin zwar kein Package-Wizard, aber ein rpmbuild 
aus nem source-rpm bekomm ich wohl hin und habe ein Grundverständnis, wie 
das funktioniert.

Ich hatte kürzlich auch eine kleine Konversation mit Herrn Oberhumer 
himself - der ist genauso verwundert wie ich,  warum lzop sich noch nicht 
ein wenig mehr "etabliert" hat - führt dieses aber auf fehlendes Marketing 
zurück. Kann die Mail gerne mal weiterleiten, falls Interesse

Hättest Du Lust, mit mir Lzop gemeinsam ein wenig zu "pushen" ?

Description:
for years now, i find it absolutely annoying, that suse comes without lzop 
file
compressor ( http://www.lzop.org/ ). i think lzop is  a good addendum to 
gzip
and bzip2 - bzip2 compresses best, but slow - gzip compresses good at good
speed and lzop compresses "not that perfect" but at absolutely impressing
speed.

there is already software packages in suse which supports lzop as 
compression
scheme, like amavisd, file-roller - maybe there are even more, but i didn`t 
yet
search in depth.

maybe it`s time and worth thinking about incorporating lzop?

opensuse already has lzo library - so why not adding lzop then ?

ok, the website tells it`s just a release-candidate - but i think lzop is
mature utility and being at "RC" state is just a matter of the fact, that 
Mr.
Oberhumer is missing the time to make a stable release ;)

This is something that should be first build in the openSUSE Build Service 
and
if enough people like it, we can include it.
